Reminder Idea

I just use a timer widget for the hourly giveaways and reset it after I get new tickets. I also use Twitter to notify me of new prizes and when prizes end. Just search 'raffstar' on Twitter.

This will send messages to your email. Using Gmail filters you can have it automatically forward all messages from raffstar to another email address. Most mobile phone providers allow cellphones to recieve eamil via sms. You phone must be able to recieve text messages for this to work. Simply make the forward adress the adress of your phone. For example, I use AT&T and the adress is areacodemynumber@txt.att.net. A simple google search should help you find the address that you should use with your provider. When it is all set up, you should get a text message whenever a prize ends.
As of right now I am unaware of a way to do this when it is time to draw another ticket. -

I would like to make 2 suggestions regarding this topic:
1. Allow people to specify a specific address for notifications. That way you can use a cell phone email address and, emails like newsletters et. al. still get sent to a regular email address. Everyone should have a cell phone email address: http://www.livejournal.com/tools/textmessage.bml?mode=details
2. Modify the notification emails so that they are less than 160 characters (including the link). Currently they are too long and require multiple messages to be recieved. The worst part is, it breaks up the link, so I have to visit the link manually.
