OK, I'm not seeing them anymore, good job...or maybe I was acting suspicious.  Either way, I'm happy, what a nice way to start the day.

I hazard a guess that after a person gets a certain amount of tickets in a drawing the Captcha start. The more tickets in the drawing the more often you get them.

The Captchas are annoying because while at times they are not intrusive, but only pop up periodically, yet other times they pop up repeatedly and consecutively sometimes before I even get to get the first ticket of the session. Fine that the tickets are free, but until and unless I win something, it is already a lot of effort for potentially nothing without additional burdensome consecutive proving that I am not a 'bot. At least improve the obnoxious message that accompanies the pop up box to something more friendly.

I agree, seeing them over and over is annoying, and they do seem to come in waves.  These are supposed to prevent bot usage, and most people use bots because the person isn't there, so why put up several CAPTCHAs in a row?  I wasn't a bot ten seconds ago, why would I be now?  I've suggested a grace period after a CAPTCHA if displayed, even thirty seconds would be great.  I realize there are numerous adjustments being made regularly, but this one seems obvious and easy to implement.  But I suppose everyone thinks their ideas are all great.

I hate to bust your bubble. But this will always be a problem. Captchas are not going to stop scripters. They only hurt and discurrage the people who are really clicking. Its just going to a constanit battle for this site and any others like it.  There are plenty of ways around it and I think its pretty ovisous who is using them and beating the system again/still.

I think things have gotten better, I remember when the top ten would have a major jump between the top three and the others, sometimes of more than 100 tickets, now things look a little more smooth which is nice to see from a statistical perspective.

As for CAPTCHAs stopping bots, I think they do, when implemented properly.  There are schemes for getting people to solve them for the bots, but that is more of a failing of the community being exploited than a failing of the technology.   Some systems don't use enough obfuscations in the letters, but these look fine.  It's also nice to see there are options for the visually impaired.

Overall, I'm happy with the system, aside from the occasional barrage which may be intentional to make sure the user didn't look at one and then leave to let the bot finish the job.

I wasn't trying to say they were no good. Just that anyone that wants to beat the system so to speak will.  I just keep seeing things like "bots" post on the comments on prizes. That's not going to look good to new members either. Or people looking to join the site. Just as people with ticket leads won't either.  At the end of the day nothing is perfect and people will have to accept this.

I know there are plenty of people saying get over it it's for a good cause and it is. But lets get real no one would just sit arond and click ads/tickets if there were no prize involved. I could spend my time better off just donating 20 bucks to a charity. But its fun and exciting to win something.

I just tried the CAPTCHA audio and it didn't work, I'd only tried once.  That was on Safari 4 on the latest Mac OS, has anyone else tried it?

Thanks for all your comments concerning the captcha.  We are currently working on a method that will dissuade cheaters without being too obtrusive to our legitimate users.  I think you will find the amount of captchas you receive today more manageable than they have been in the past few days.

As far as the audio for the captcha not working in Safari, thank you for pointing it out.  It is a known issue, but should only be affecting our Safari users.  We are working on a fix for it.

Again, thank you for all your comments.  Keep them coming.

Your captcha system is out of control again. i am not a bot and you are suddenly inundating me with captcha popups a good deal of the time while I am trying to get tickets. If you are trying to drive me away from the site, you are close to succeeding. I put a great deal of time and effort into playing, even though I have yet to win anything after months of play, and i don't need the insult of nasty worded captchas interfering with my play. I don't mind the occasional captcha, but the relentless barrage lately is getting really old really fast. Just because I have a fast internet connection and spend a goodly amount of time online is no reason to assault me with what are essentially accusations of cheating. Limit all players to 6, 8, or 10 tickets per day per game or in total and you won't need captchas at all except for monitoring signups or posts.
