CAPTCHA

1 year ago#1Your CAPTCHA system needs some serious tweaking as I got a CAPTCHA on nearly every ticket. I understand the necessity to police cheating and don't have a problem with it, but please do some real testing next time.

I understand your frustration. Rest assured that we will be tweaking the captcha system over time as necessary to best combat efforts by cheaters as well as ensure the best possible balance between security and enjoyability for all of our users.
That being said, even now the captcha only appears after you have received a certain number of tickets. We feel that inputting a 4-digit security code in exchange for additional free tickets for multiple prize drawings is hardly asking much, but we are always open to alternative suggestions to combat cheating. Thanks!

Are these case-sensitive? Also, I'd like them to appear less often, maybe every fifth ticket or so. Seeing that every time I click "get ticket" is too much.
My method for this site is to come back about once an hour and get a ticket for every prize I want. So I'll enter a captcha for every prize except the first one. If a person only applies for one prize have it come up every fifth ticket they get for that prize, and for people like me, ask for a captcha every five tickets gotten so probably two an hour. More often could be reasonable, but not the way it is now, in my opinion.
It looks like the system puts a captcha up when somebody gets one ticket after another, but that isn't the problem. Since there are twelve prices on an hourly basis a bot that gets one ticket for one prize and waits five minutes to get the next ticket from the next prize could avoid the captcha and get a ticket every hour without issue on this system.

The captchas are not currently case-sensitive, far as I am aware.
I can't really go into detail regarding the security algorithms, but I will say that if a bot tried what you are describing, it will still get hit with the captchas. After the initial bout of captchas today, we've already begun targeting more specific cases and most users will stop seeing them so often.

1 year ago#5I must confess, after my first post here I have not seen any. Good job! And knowing they are not case-sensitive is good because some of those letters don't change from case to case much, like S.

1 year ago#6I've only seen two so far today. Much improved over the initial bout of CAPTCHAS. Good job Raffstar.

I'm seeing quite a bit more now, almost for every ticket I get. Can't you note that one has been completed and not ask for the next minute or two?
Also, I tried using this site on another computer with a smaller monitor 800x600 and the CAPTCHA showed up very low on the window without a way to move it, with so many small portable computers using low resolution screens, it may be wise to put the CAPTCHAs closer to the top of the window or allow the user to move them.
Keep up the great work, it's nice to see a smooth curve on the top ten instead of the drastic spike for the top few who have around 25 percent more than the others on the top ten.
Thanks,
Andrew

1 year ago#9I just did a round of tickets and saw a CAPTCHA on all but one. It's been like that all day too. Any plans to improve the system?
