I started this post last night to announce that Raffstar had over 1,000 members sign up, only to wake up this morning and discover that we were nearing 1,500 already!

Thank you to everyone who has joined so far! As you know, Raffstar is 100% supported by advertising revenue: our partners pay for the prizes in exchange for the ads you see around the site. The larger we grow, the better prizes we can offer and the more support we can raise for the charities.

So tell your friends about Raffstar! Yes, technically you’ll have to compete with each other, but wouldn’t you rather it be over a trip to Europe than a $25 gift card?

A big ‘thank you!’ to everyone that nominated Raffstar for the Open Web Awards. Because of your votes, we’ve made it to the top 10 in the Non-Profit Causes category and have moved into the next round! During this new round, you can vote once a day from now until December 3rd.

To make things even easier, we’ve made a special page where you can vote, and have also added a widget to the home page that you can vote with. So now you can cast your votes without ever having to leave the site! Just use the home page widget or go to: http://www.raffstar.com/open-web-awards/ to enter your email address, click the vote button and an email will be sent to you with a link to verify your vote. It’s as simple as that!

Since 1991, this Day is both a time for celebration and a time for reflection. It is an occasion for all to celebrate the advances in the medical and social spheres and also to reflect on the work that still needs to be done to further improve the care infrastructure for people with diabetes.

All around the world, World Diabetes Day is marked in over 130 countries and diabetes associations all over the world.

International Diabetes Federation member associations, individual members and health professionals around the world organise an extensive range of activities which vary from country to country. Anyone can join in!

More than 200 million people worldwide have diabetes. Many of them do not receive the care that they need. For more information visit the International Diabetes Federation and World Diabetes Day websites.

The International Diabetes Federation is the only global advocate for people with diabetes and their healthcare providers. They are a non-governmental organisation in official relations with the World Health Organisation and the Pan American Health Organisation.

Their mission is to work with their member associations to enhance the lives of people with diabetes. Since they first took up the diabetes cause in 1950, they have evolved into an umbrella organisation of 183 member associations in 142 countries.

Mashable’s Open Web Awards are now open for nominations! We’d so appreciate it if you are enough of a Raffstar fan to nominate us in the Non-Profit Causes category.

Here’s how to nominate (breakdown adapted from Producteev’s Ilan Abehassera’s nomination steps):

1. Go to the Mashable Open Web Awards.
2. Select the Non-Profit Causes category.
3. Enter www.raffstar.com for the URL of the company.
4. Enter your email address and click submit.
5. Finally, click the link that you receive by email to confirm your vote (and to avoid spam).
